One of the casualties of what POK calls the “Triple Threat” against our children in the public schools (1. Sex & Gender Theory, 2. Critical Race Theory, 3. Social & Emotional Learning ) is the meaning of words.
For example, a person’s “sex” once referred to male or female biology. Now, according to Planned Parenthood and “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” curriculums used across the nation, sex is merely a “label that you’re assigned by a doctor at birth….” “Gender,” similarly, used to mean the expression of one’s sexual biology. Not anymore. It’s been redefined as “a social and legal status, and set of expectations from society, about behaviors, characteristics, and thoughts.”
Pronouns (noun replacements) in the English language were once inextricably linked to male and female genders. Today they’re being redefined, and increasingly enforced, to mean whatever one thinks they mean, “they/them/ver/vis/xe/xem/hir/…”
Throughout history, when words were redefined for political and ideological purposes bad things followed. That’s why it’s so concerning when influential organizations, like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), change the meaning of words, like “racism,” for purely political and ideological purposes.Throughout history, when words were redefined for political and ideological purposes bad things followed. Below is a letter drafted by our friends at Californians for Equal Rights Foundation (CFER) and signed by 20 different organizations, including POK, that challenged ADL’s decision to try and tie the meaning of racism to white privilege.
But there’s good news. It appears that since this joint letter was sent, ADL acted quickly to amend its public definition. This ought to encourage us that efforts to hold people/institutions accountable can and often do bear fruit.
All to say, make your voice heard!
