The cost of homeschool is a valid concern. Homeschooling usually does require one spouse to sacrifice a career and the financial benefits that come with it. On the other hand, if there’s anything deserving of sacrifice the welfare of one’s children would seem to qualify. But as countless homeschooling families can attest, the joys of being so intimately involved in the education of your children serve as its own reward.

But aside from the very real earthly benefits of sacrificing for one’s children, there is an even more weighty reason for considering the cost. As the Psalmist teaches,

“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward…How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.” (Psalm 127:3-5)

Our children are entrusted to us from God. Protecting them from the corroding influence of a misguided school system is not merely a benefit, it’s a responsibility, a calling.
